Congratulations to Jackson Shafer, Gianna Manzi and Joseph Zvorsky for representing Wilkes at the International Business Ethics Case Competition (IBECC) in San Francisco, California! The team earned second place in the graduate division’s 90-second presentation. Additionally, Zvorsky was awarded a Moral Compass award for writing a creative ethical dilemma. IBECC is the nation's oldest and most distinguished event of its kind and helps students develop critical skills in ethical analysis. Competing is just one example of how the AACSB-accredited Sidhu School of Business and Leadership gives students opportunities to grow their skills and prepare for their careers. The conference, centered on the theme of “The Evolution of Family Roles and Balancing Work and Family Dynamics”, will include research presentations by campus and community members as well as a keynote by Abby Palko, the inaugural director of the residential commons program at Colgate University. Meet Helena D. Lewis, an award-winning actress, poet and playwright who will take the stage for the Allan Hamilton Dickson Spring Writers Series. Her one-woman show, Call Me Crazy: Diary of a Mad Social Worker, has won multiple awards, including the AUDELCO 2014 Best Solo Performance Award, and has been featured at theater festivals across the country. A licensed clinical social worker and substance abuse treatment director, Lewis brings raw, honest storytelling to the stage, exploring the complexities of mental health, addiction and social work.

Fifth Annual Douglass Day Transcribe-a-Thon: Students and faculty worked together to preserve vital historical documents by transcribing them from their original formats.

Featuring Black History Month authors: The E.S. Farley Library featured curated displays that highlight Black authors and their cultural contributions.

On Tuesday, the Wilkes community gathered to share their favorite dishes while showing off their culinary skills to benefit the United Way of the Wyoming Valley! Taste of Wilkes is best described as a community potluck where faculty and staff "chefs" can share crowd-pleasing dishes in hopes of being crowned winners in their categories. Colleagues sample each dish, vote on their favorites and can enter to win gift baskets as part of the event. All proceeds from Taste of Wilkes benefit the United Way, which includes Wilkes' very own SHINE afterschool program. This year, we're proud to announce that the event raised more than $1,200! Congratulations to the Taste of Wilkes committee and thank you to all of the chefs, volunteers and attendees for your support!

Wilkes University’s Passan School of Nursing was recently awarded $750,000 through a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant to create a new, state-of-the-art nursing simulation center. Wilkes University students held their annual Alcohol Awareness Walk today, Tuesday October 29. This event is organized by BACCHUS and is in conjunction with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.

This one-mile walk began at the Fenner Quadrangle, with students walking to Kirby Park and back to campus. This event raises awareness of the dangers of excessive and underage drinking.

Wilkes University and Northampton Community College (NCC) have announced a new partnership to align their curricula for engineering students, creating a seamless transfer pathway for students pursuing an associate of science degree in engineering at NCC who wish to continue their education with a bachelor of science degree in engineering at Wilkes.

As part of the partnership, Wilkes is offering significant financial support for qualified transfer students, including:

Students transferring from NCC to Wilkes will be eligible for a $17,000 annual scholarship

Full-time students with a GPA of 3.30 or higher are eligible for additional merit-based scholarships

NCC students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa can receive an additional $2000 bonus scholarship

For the first time since the James Jones Novel Fellowship was established in 1992, judges from the Maslow Family Graduate Program and the James Jones Literary Society have selected two writers to serve as fellows.

Thomas Andrew Green of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Julie Ries of the Hudson Valley area of New York, have each been awarded $9,000 for the top prize in the James Jones First Novel competition out of 627 submissions.
