The Wilkes student chapter was chosen for the top prize out of 85 national chapters.
The Wilkes University student chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) was named the 2020 Chapter of the Year during the organization’s national Nexus meeting held virtually from Oct. 20 to 23. The chapter from the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy won top honors out of 85 student chapters from across the country.
The Chapter of the Year Award is given annually to the student chapter that establishes quality, innovative managed-care programming for students. The student chapter within the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy was recognized for their work in helping the community by offering Medicare information sessions and encouraging members of the Wilkes community to donate meals to local shelters. They also helped connect Medicare patients to free medication therapy management services and continued to educate their peers with innovative events including managed care/public health trivia and a first of its kind prior authorization competition. The Wilkes group received a commemorative trophy and a $1,000 cash prize for their organization.
The 2019-20 executive board for the Wilkes student chapter include Haley Evans, president, from Deptford, NJ; Megan Sokol, president-elect, from Bloomsburg, Pa.; Liam Bartko, treasurer, from Lake Ariel, Pa.; Lindsay Musial, secretary, from Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Alex Faes, professional chair, from Hilton, N.Y.; and Lilyann Nguyen, historian/social media chair, from Harrisburg, Pa. The chapter is advised by Steven Kheloussi, Wilkes University assistant professor of pharmacy practice.
In order to be considered, students compiled an application detailing the events they have hosted with an essay highlighting how well the chapter encourages the education, development and promotion of the principles and practices of managed care pharmacy.
