December Band, Orchestra, Jazz and Choral Concerts Planned

A series of musical concerts are scheduled at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center from Dec. 4-11, 2022.

CIVIC BAND, Sunday, Dec. 4, 3 p.m.

The Civic Band concert, conducted by Philip G. Simon, will perform “Scherzo for Band” by Gioachino Rossini, “Rhosymedre” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “Riften Wed” written by Julie Giroux about a city in the Skyrim action role-playing video game, as well as works by Edwin Franko Goldman and John Zdechlik.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, Monday, Dec. 5, 8 p.m.

The Wilkes University Chamber Orchestra concert, conducted by John Vaida, will feature music by Respighi and Dittersdorf. 

JAZZ ENSEMBLE, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m.

The Wilkes University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Philip G. Simon, with guest composer and arranger Gregory D. V. Holmes, will feature jazz classics including “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller, “Blues in Hoss Flat” by Count Basie, and contemporary works “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock and “Killer Joe” by Benny Golson.

WILKES UNIVERSITY CHORUS AND CHAMBER SINGERS, Sunday, Dec. 11, 3 p.m.

The Wilkes University Choral Ensembles concert will feature the University Chorus and the University Chamber Singers in a variety of songs that span the ages from the 16th through the 21st centuries, including “Angelus Ad Pastores Ait,” by Hans Leo Hassler, “This Little Babe” from Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, and “Ave Maria” by László Halmos. The concert is conducted by Mathew Rupcich and accompanied by Bernie Gardzalla.
