Debbie Scheibler, a graduate of the Wilkes University Doctor of Education program, has been recognized with the Dissertation of the Year Award from the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International. The awards highlight the service and accomplishments of professionals who have worked to strengthen the association and campus housing profession.
Her dissertation, “Home Sweet Home: A phenomenological case study exploring the lived experiences of residential students in curricular environments” assesses the experiences, perceptions and outcomes of undergraduate students living in a residential environment employing a residential curriculum model. She will be featured in the March/April issue of the organization’s bimonthly magazine, Talking Stick.
Scheibler earned her EdD from Wilkes in 2021. She previously served as director of residence life at Wilkes from 2017 to 2020 before moving on to Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J. She is now a senior associate at the executive search firm, Isaacson, Miller.
The Association of College and University Housing Officers-International has more than 17,000 members and 950 institutional members in the higher education and student affairs spaces.
The Wilkes EdD program is a low-residency doctoral program with an emphasis in research. Students in the program choose from specializations in K-12 administration with Pa. superintendent’s letter of eligibility or educational leadership with concentrations in educational technology, curriculum and instruction or educational leadership skills. Full-time students can complete coursework in three to four years by learning online and attending three residencies throughout the program.
