Wilkes University and Luzerne County Community College have expanded a dual admission agreement between the two institutions which guarantees admission to Wilkes for community college students and offers more opportunities for them to earn scholarships at the University. The agreement was signed by Wilkes President Greg Cant and LCCC President Thomas P. Leary on Tuesday, Sept. 1 in Weckesser Hall at Wilkes University.
Under the dual admission agreement, LCCC students who transfer to Wilkes will qualify for merit scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $18,000 annually. LCCC Presidential Scholars who have earned the associate degree with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average or higher will receive the Presidential Scholarship, one of the highest merit scholarships available to Wilkes students, currently valued at a minimum of $21,000 per academic year.
Additional scholarship awards of $2,000 also are available to community college students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. LCCC students receiving the Francis S. & Mary Gill Carrozza, R.N. Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship at the community college who maintain a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and who enter a science program at Wilkes will be eligible for a Leaders in Science scholarship of up to $1,000 upon admission to the University. This scholarship can’t be combined withother add-on or bonus scholarships.
The two institutions have also signed new program articulations which create seamless transfer pathways for community college students entering programs in the Sidhu School of Business. This encompasses majors in accounting, corporate finance, financial investments, sports management, management and marketing as well as the accelerated bachelor of business administration program (ABBA).
“Wilkes University is pleased to expand our dual admissions agreement with Luzerne County Community College by providing scholarships that will encourage the most talented students to continue their education at Wilkes,” said Wilkes University President Greg Cant. “The agreement allows Wilkes to build on its historic mission of providing access to a four-year degree to all those who show promise.”
“Improving the transfer process between educational institutions is vital and these comprehensive agreements allow our institutions to work collaboratively to help students build their futures and change their lives,” says Thomas P. Leary, president, LCCC. “The significant opportunities for scholarships will greatly benefit our graduates and help alleviate their student debt.”
The new agreement continues policies outlined in an earlier dual admission agreement between the two institutions. In order to participate in the dual admission program, LCCC students who wish to attend Wilkes must sign a dual admission intent form at the LCCC admissions office by their third semester at the community college. Students who complete the dual admission intent form at LCCC can take up to 12 credits at Wilkes free of charge while still enrolled in LCCC. Community college students who complete the dual admission intent form also are invited to participate in Wilkes University activities prior to their enrollment.
