Wilkes University Doctor of Philosophy in nursing student, Jamie Hankins, was awarded the Promise of Nursing Faculty Fellowship for the Pennsylvania region. The fellowship, administered by the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, is awarded to registered nurses enrolled in graduate-level, degree-granting programs in select regions of the United States.

The fellowship addresses the nurse educator shortage by providing funding to registered nurses in graduate programs that will prepare them for a career as a nurse educator. Funds can assist with the cost of tuition, academic fees and book expenses. The selection of recipients is based on academic achievement, financial need, commitment to the nurse educator role and the plan to serve in this capacity upon completion of the program.

Hankins, of Temecula, Calif., is an academic coach and teaching associate for Instructional Connections, LLC. Upon her anticipated graduation in 2021, she plans to pursue a full-time faculty position where she can blend her passion for nursing, education, and research to advance nursing education and improve patient care and outcomes.
