American Premier of Wind Ensemble Version of Eugene Magalif’s Concerto for Flute Will Be Featured
The Wilkes University Flute Ensemble presents the concert “Creature Feature.” The performance is April 27 at 8 p.m. on the main stage of the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts at Wilkes University. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.
The Flute Ensemble portion of the concert will feature moments from “The Flight of the Bumble Bee” from The Tale of Tsar Sultan by Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as animal-themed works by Phyllis Avidan Louke, Anze Rozman, Keith Amos, Mark Ballora and Michael Davis.
After intermission, the Wilkes University Wind Ensemble will perform the US Premiere of Eugene Magalif’s Concerto for Flute and Wind Ensemble, with Venezuelan flutist Maria Mendoza as the soloist. Mendoza is the winner of the second prize in The Eugene Magalif International Concerto Competition. Magalif is well-known for his pop-songs and music for children and his compositions have been recorded by famous singers and orchestras from various countries. Mendoza is an award winning flutist and recently recorded her first album called “Deseos.”
The Flute Choir is directed by Alicia “Lish” Lindsey, acting principal flutist of the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra. Lindsey is the adjunct flute professor and flute ensemble director at Wilkes.
