SUMMARY:We're Empowered by Science (WEBS) Summer Science Camp
DESCRIPTION:The We’re Empowered by Science (WEBS) Summer Science Camp welcomes campers who have a sincere interest in the sciences. The WEBS program is designed to: \n\n\n\n\nEmpower young people to pursue an education and a career in STEM fields.\n\n\n\nExpose participants to multiple STEM-based fields.\n\n\n\nIntroduce participants to a college campus.\n\n\n\nConnect participants with Wilkes University professors\, staff\, and students as well as STEM professionals from the community.\n\n\n\nProvide a positive laboratory experience where participants can question\, investigate\, learn and analyze using fun\, interactive\, hands-on experiments\, as well as develop important laboratory skills.\n\n\n\nEncourage team-building and collaboration amongst young people.\n\n\n\nCreate young leaders.\n\n\n\n\nThe WEBS 1.0 Camp is open to first and second year campers entering grades 7 and 8. Examples of some of the hands-on experiments across various disciplines in science that these campers will have the chance to partake in include: exploring neuroscience by making brain cakes\, assembling a human skeleton after going on a bone scavenger hunt\, solving crimes CSI style\, programming their own robots\, and so much more! \n\n\n\nThe WEBS 2.0 Camp is open to returning campers entering grades 9-12. The WEBS 2.0 program was created at the request of campers who aged out of our WEBS 1.0 program\, but who still wanted to participate in the WEBS experience. The lab offerings for the 2.0 program changes yearly so that returning  campers are not completing the same experiments year after year and exposes these individuals to areas of science that they likely have not yet experienced. Examples of previous 2.0 programming includes learning how to suture\, creating a public service announcement about a hot topic in science\, making yogurt using concepts of microbiology\, and so much more! Throughout the week\, 2.0 campers will also have opportunities to attend off-site field trips and to serve as mentors to younger WEBS campers. \n\n\n\nTuition for the 6 day camp running Sunday 7/20/25 through Friday 7/25/25 is $300\, which includes daily snacks and drinks\, a t-shirt\, a drawstring bag filled with lab safety equipment and supplies\, and lots of FUN hands-on laboratory experiences! SUMMARY:Continued Learning Presents Screening & Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Wilkes University’s Center for Continued Learning will present a free screening of the documentary Recovery City\, followed by a panel discussion with the film’s Producer and Director\, Lisa Olivieri\, as part of their ongoing Healthcare Seminars.  \n\n\n\nDesigned for working healthcare professionals\, the screening and panel discussion is part of a series of workshops for professional development and continuing education courses offered by Wilkes. Pharmacists\, nurses\, social workers and counselors who participate in the course will receive 2.5 hours of continuing education. The deadline for registering is Monday\, Sep. 8 at 5 p.m. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this screening and panel discussion is to raise awareness and promote understanding and de-stigmatization surrounding addiction and recovery\, using storytelling and the lived experience of the film participants to engage diverse audiences.  \n\n\n\nThe film Recovery City is a raw exploration of what it means to be in recovery as seen through the eyes of four women whose lives share a common thread: addiction. In the working-class city of Worcester\, Massachusetts\, Christine fights to regain custody of her young children while grappling with a traumatic past\, and battling stigma from the very systems that are designed to help her. Bridget\, who found recovery while in prison\, now facilitates peer-led support meetings for women. On the frontlines\, recovery coaches Janis and Rebecca navigate the city’s toughest corners offering support and trying to save lives. In this portrait of resilience\, grit and camaraderie\, the women use their lived experience to lift up those still struggling while refusing to give up hope. \n\n\n\nLisa Olivieri is an award-winning filmmaker from the Boston area. Her first documentary\, Blindsided\, is an intimate portrait of a female artist slowly losing her sight and hearing while surviving her abusive girlfriend. The film has won numerous awards\, including the Artistic Achievement Award in Directing from the qFLIX Film Festival / Worcester and the Jury Award for Best Documentary from The Women’s Film Festival / Philadelphia. \n\n\n\nThe screening will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jean and Paul Adams Commons located on the second floor of the Henry Student Center. Those who wish to attend can register for the event here.

This exhibition gathers a constellation of performance videos that move delicately along these thresholds\, where gestures dissolve into breath\, and stories are murmured rather than told.  \n\n\n\nThe Sordoni Gallery will have this exhibition open Sept 16-Oct 8. Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am-5pm\, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm.
