SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Why Am I Sad by Dana Stirling | Formal/Informal: Innovations in Portraiture
DESCRIPTION:Why Am I Sad by Dana Stirling and Formal/Informal: Innovations in Portraiture will be on display from March 24 to May 15\, 2026. \n\n\n\nWhy Am I Sad by Dana Stirling explores mental health and depression through still life photography. An estimated 280 million people worldwide live with depression; this exhibition shares the personal narrative of one of them—Dana Stirling. As a child of immigrants\, she grew up navigating dual identities\, often feeling like an outsider in both cultures. This sense of displacement fostered deep isolation and emotional unrest. Photography became her refuge\, a way to express what words could not. \n\n\n\nFormal/ Informal: Innovations in Portraiture from the Syracuse University Art Museum explores the definition of portraiture\, comparing that formal term to the compositions created by photographers. During the 19th century\, formal studio or posed portraits flourished as a way to capture a vision of a person\, whether known or unknown to the photographer. The artist\, in turn\, utilized their craft to tell the story of the sitter. Images from the 20th and 21st centuries evolved into both formal and informal views of people\, as their environs began to play as much of a role in their portrait as their faces did. The result is a collection of portraits that could be serious\, playful\, have social or political ramifications\, or whose purpose is to celebrate the people\, famous or infamous\, ultimately telling the story of our society as a whole.

SUMMARY:Urinetown\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Colonels on Campus is a special visit experience designed exclusively for admitted Fall 2026 students at Wilkes University. This program offers admitted seniors the opportunity to participate in a variety of events hosted by our on-campus partners\, giving you a deeper look at life as a Wilkes student.\n\n\n\nThrough interactive programs\, campus activities\, and meaningful connections\, Colonels on Campus allows you to experience Wilkes alongside our vibrant campus community. It’s a chance to explore academic interests\, engage with student life\, and envision yourself as part of the Colonel family before your first day on campus. This Colonels on Campus event is hosted by our Sordoni Art Gallery. Details about this event are below.\n\n\n\n\nIn this side-splitting satire\, water is scarce and Hope is even scarcer. Set in a dystopian world\, citizens must pay a fee to access the public amenities\, the only place to legally use the restroom. These facilities are run and monitored by the richest of society. In a wave of revolution\, the poorest and filthiest of these amenities becomes a number one site for major change.  \n\n\n\nWith an incisive score by Tony winner Mark Hollmann\, hilarious lyrics by Hollman and Tony winner Greg Kotis\, and a plot with thrilling twists and turns\, Urinetown is an “audacious and exhilarating” (The New York Times) take on the classic story of a ragtag group of underdogs coming together against a corrupt power. In this Tony-winning musical\, nothing is safe from criticism — capitalism\, politics\, the establishment\, the anti-establishment\, and even musical theater itself! \n\n\n\nPlease be advised that WUT’s production of Urinetown includes the use of theatrical fog and haze effects\, as well as strobe lighting. These elements may affect audience members who are sensitive to atmospheric effects or flashing lights. Viewer discretion is advised. If you have concerns or require accommodations\, please contact the box office prior to attending the performance.

SUMMARY:Artventurers: Pattern-Palooza
