Preventing Sexual Violence and Supporting LGBTQIA+ Communities with Jacob Kelley
September 29 @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

LGBTQIA college students experience sexual violence at disproportionately higher rates than their heterosexual and cisgender peers and
often face additional barriers to reporting, accessing resources, and receiving affirming support. National data indicate that approximately 23–26% of LGBTQIA undergraduate students report experiencing sexual assault during college, compared to 18–20% of non-LGBTQIA students, with nearly 1 in 2 transgender and nonbinary students reporting some form of sexual violence. Additionally, over 60% of LGBTQIA survivors do not formally report incidents due to fear of discrimination, being outed, or lack of confidence in institutional response. This workshop, provided for Faculty and Staff will build understanding of LGBTQIA-specific risk factors, strengthen prevention strategies, and increase capacity to respond supportively to disclosures through trauma-informed, inclusive practices and institutional responsibility frameworks.
