Wilkes University is thrilled to announce a transformative gift of $1 million from William Bush, a dedicated advocate for education and community engagement. This generous contribution will bolster the Bonner Leader Program and the Wilkes Fund, reinforcing our commitment to fostering student leadership and civic involvement. With a strong background in philanthropy, Bush emphasizes the importance of nurturing leadership and civic responsibility among students. His support will help ensure that Wilkes University remains a leader in promoting innovative civic engagement programs.

The Bonner Leader Program, a hallmark of Wilkes University, is designed to cultivate social responsibility and leadership skills among our students. With this gift, we aim to sustain and expand the program, targeting at least 20 students who will engage in meaningful community service while gaining invaluable experience and professional skills.

“I am proud to support Wilkes University and The Bonner Leader Program,” said Bush. “This partnership represents not just a financial contribution, but a commitment to empowering students to lead and serve their communities.”

The funding will create the William and Eileen Bush Endowment, which will allocate $600,000 to support a full-time staff position and operational costs for the Bonner Leader Program. The remaining $400,000 will enhance the Wilkes Fund, addressing the University’s most pressing needs.

“This transformative gift will create opportunities for our students to engage with and contribute to our community and beyond. Because of collaboration and partnerships like this, we can grow the connection between Wilkes and the community, and inspire the next generations of leaders who are dedicated to community service and social impact,” said President Greg Cant.  “We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Bush for his vision and support of our students and the University.”

In the coming months, Wilkes University will be celebrating this partnership and the positive impact it will have on its campus.
