Greg Cant, Ph.D. was named the seventh president of the University in December 2019 and assumed official duties in May 2020. The renewal will extend his tenure through 2029.

Wilkes University’s Board of Trustees has announced the renewal of President Greg Cant’s contract for another five year term.

“Greg has proven to be an exemplary leader for Wilkes over the past four years,” said Bill Miller ‘81, board of trustees chair.  “We are looking forward to seeing his leadership of a new vision, mission and values for the University.”

Cant, a native of Australia with more than 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator in the United States and abroad, was named the seventh president of Wilkes University in December 2019.

Cant officially began his tenure in late-May 2020, when both the campus and the country were faced with significant challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Cant’s leadership, a cross-functional group of University employees ensured that Wilkes students, faculty and staff were able to safely return to campus for the fall 2020 semester.

Embracing a collaborative leadership style, Cant stewarded a variety of initiatives throughout his tenure to improve the institution’s financial and enrollment strength, including the introduction of innovative and market-driven academic programs and the academic restructuring of its colleges. Working with campus constituencies, Cant also championed the clarification of the University’s mission and values.

Cant’s tenure has also seen the development and launch of the University’s strategic plan, which includes key goals of advancing academic excellence, supporting student success, promoting innovation and partnerships, strengthening financial resilience, optimizing infrastructure, and prioritizing community, enrichment and service. Endorsed by the Board in June 2023, the strategic priorities of the Innovate. Engage. Thrive. plan will guide the institution through 2028.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving as President of Wilkes University,” said Cant, noting his appreciation for the support of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students and the entire Wilkes community. “This institution holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to build on our progress and lead Wilkes into its next chapter.”

Cant previously served as the dean of the Feliciano School of Business at Montclair State University.
