Wilkes University has been awarded $200,000 in funding through the Statewide Local Share Account program to purchase equipment and technology for an enhanced, state-of-the-art Nursing Simulation Center.
“This investment will help prepare the next generation of nurses at a time when healthcare providers across Pennsylvania face unprecedented staffing challenges,” says James Cousins, president of Wilkes University. “We are immensely grateful to Senator Flynn and Representative Pashinski for their support of this project, which will allow Wilkes University to provide nursing students with the confidence and capabilities they need to ensure exceptional patient care and success in the workforce.”
The funding will allow for the purchase of vital technology, medical training devices, equipment and advanced audio-visual systems necessary to create a realistic healthcare environment. Designed to replicate hospital and patient care settings, the Nursing Simulation Center will allow students to practice clinical procedures, medication administration, patient assessments and emergency response scenarios before entering real-world healthcare settings.
“Ensuring Pennsylvania has a strong healthcare workforce starts with investing in the institutions that educate and train the next generation of professionals,” says Senator Marty Flynn. “This funding will help Wilkes University expand opportunities for nursing students while supporting the long-term healthcare needs of our region.”
Healthcare providers across Pennsylvania continue to face nursing workforce shortages. Wilkes University helps address that need, with approximately 74% of graduates from its bachelor of science in nursing program remaining in Pennsylvania to practice. The expanded Nursing Simulation Center will further strengthen the pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals for communities across the Commonwealth.

Through the Local Share Account program, the Commonwealth Financing Authority supports community and economic development projects that improve quality of life across Pennsylvania. Wilkes University’s Nursing Simulation Center was one of approximately 1,378 projects funded of 3,224 applications.
