Script Your Future: Meet Paul Blankemeyer

by Kelly Clisham

Through Script Your Future, a national consumer education campaign, student pharmacists spend time helping community members understand the importance of medication adherence.

Paul Blankemeyer is a P3 pharmacy student who grew up in Surf City, New Jersey, but now calls Plains, Pennsylvania, home. He and the rest of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Script Your Future team have spent the last few months working to help people to “Stick to the Script.”

Why did you decide to study pharmacy?
I started working in a pharmacy while finishing my undergraduate degree and I fell in love with every aspect of it.

What do you enjoy most about the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy?
The Nesbitt School of Pharmacy is a great community of students and professors. Class sizes are small enough that everyone is on a first-name basis. The professors also have a very diverse background of practice settings, so there are a lot of opportunities to pursue your pharmacy path.

If you weren’t a pharmacy major, what major would you choose and why?
I went to Misericordia University, where I completed the physical therapy undergraduate tract before deciding to switch to pharmacy. There is a lot of overlap in the science and patient care aspects of both fields.

Why is Script Your Future important to you?
Script Your Future is based around medication adherence, which is not only taking your medications, but also having access to your medications, understanding why you’re taking your medications and addressing any concerns about medications.

What do you enjoy most about Script Your Future?
The events at the active adult centers are always a blast. The members are excited for us to come talk to them and provide our services. I’ve gotten some really interesting ideas and questions from them.

If I have a free day, you’ll find me….
Spending time with my almost two-year-old daughter!
