Wilkes University President Greg Cant to Retire in August 2026

After careful reflection and many years of distinguished service, President Greg Cant, has informed the Board of Trustees of his intention to retire in August 2026. David Ward, senior vice president and provost, will assume the role of chief operating officer and provost effective immediately to support the University in this time of leadership transition.

“As we move into this transition period, President Cant will devote additional attention to strengthening Wilkes’ philanthropic initiatives and expanding our fundraising efforts to reinforce the university’s financial resilience and strategic priorities,” said Bill Miller ‘81, chair of the Board of Trustees. “This enhanced focus will help ensure the University is well positioned for long-term success.”

President Cant joined Wilkes University in 2020 as its seventh president, bringing more than 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator in the United States and internationally. The Board of Trustees will begin a national search for the next president in the coming months.

“We will share additional information about the search process in the months ahead. In the meantime, we express our sincere appreciation to President Cant for his service to Wilkes University,” said Miller.
