It is the season of giving, and Wilkes continues to embody the values of service and community. Students, faculty and staff work together across the University to inspire their own efforts to help others and contribute during the holiday season. For anyone looking to donate, below are a few opportunities to make an impact through food, toys and essentials drives.
Food & Essentials Drive
Honors Program & Domestic Violence Services Center – Nov. 25
The Honors Program is partnering with the Domestic Violence Services Center to host a food drive. Unexpired and non-perishable items needed: dry goods, canned items, condiments, spices and toiletries. Donations can be dropped off in the Honors Office located on the second floor of Stark in room 262. The last day to donate is Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Toys for Tots Drives
Collection at the Holiday Shopping Event – Dec. 2
Wilkes is partnering with Toys for Tots and will be collecting donations during the Holiday Shopping Event in the Henry Student Center, first floor, on Monday, Dec. 2. To donate, bring a new, unwrapped toy to help brighten the season for a child in need. Donation boxes will be available throughout the event.
National Community Pharmacist Association – Dec. 3
Additionally, the National Community Pharmacist Association (NCPA) partners with Toys for Tots. This toy drive will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3, outside of the P.O.D. in Stark (first floor) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. To donate, bring a new, unwrapped toy to help brighten the season for a child in need.
Essentials Drive
Nesbitt School of Pharmacy’s “The Backpack Project” – Dec. 8
Every year, the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy hosts “The Backpack Project,” where students help pack 250 backpacks full of essential items for homeless people in camps and in shelters in the community. Donation items needed include gloves, hats, toiletries and hygienic products. This event will take place on Monday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m.. All donation items can be dropped off in Dean Ference’s office, room 119 (first floor), and Marie Roke Thomas’s office, room 319 (third floor), in Stark.
