Wilkes University and Widener University Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, have entered into an agreement to create an accelerated program that will allow highly qualified and motivated students to complete both their bachelor’s degree and their juris doctorate in six years. This 3+3 program gives students who are committed to legal practice the ability to finish their education and begin a career sooner, saving time and tuition dollars.
After completing general education and major requirements by the end of their junior year at Wilkes, students in the 3+3 program will enroll full time at Widener during what would have been their senior year on the Wilkes-Barre campus. The course credits from Widener will be applied toward requirements for the Wilkes undergraduate degree.
“This agreement provides an exciting and valuable opportunity for high-performing students. This 3+3 program allows them to save significant time and tuition costs to pursue a legal career at a respected Pennsylvania law school, with a seamless transition from their undergraduate experience,” Widener Law Commonwealth Dean Michael Hussey said. “We are excited to move this terrific partnership forward for their benefit.”
“Wilkes University is committed to providing academic expertise and innovative approaches to help our students meet their goals,” says Greg Cant, president of Wilkes University. “The partnership with Widener offers one more way for us to provide outstanding support to help our students thrive. The 3+3 combines respect for student and family concerns about rising costs with six years of exceptional educational experience.”
