Wilkes University senior Jessica Smith of Millersville, Maryland, is the recipient of the 2022 Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Award for Excellence in Accounting from Wilkes University. Smith, an accounting and corporate finance major, was chosen for her academic achievements and for her leadership on campus.
During her time at Wilkes, Smith was a member of the honors program and served as the student coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, helping individuals from the community in the preparation of their tax returns. Smith was an accounting tutor and was named to the Dean’s List for each of her four years of study. She was the recipient of Wilkes University’s KPMG/ John R. Miller Scholarship and of the PICPA Northeast Chapter Scholarship. In addition to dual majors, Smith has minors in management and in business analytics.
Smith was a four-year member of the women’s softball team and served as the team representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Conference All Sportsmanship Team in 2021, received the Wilkes University Colonel Elite Award in 2020, and earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete achievement for four years.
Smith will graduate on May 21 with degrees in accounting and corporate finance. She will then begin her career with Kearney & Company, located in Alexandria, Virginia, the largest CPA firm in the nation exclusively focused on the government. Smith is the daughter of John and Martha Smith, Millersville, Maryland.
