The Wilkes University School of Education is offering two days of free professional development training for classroom teachers on Aug. 18 and 19. The two day-long sessions, which will be presented as online webinars on Zoom, are designed to address the unique challenges being faced by educators as they return to real and virtual classrooms in fall 2020. Each day of professional development offerings begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes five one-hour sessions. The program includes a one-hour lunch break and concludes at 3:15 p.m. Teachers may choose to attend the full day or individual sessions.
No pre-registration is required. Teachers who wish to obtain Act 48 credit for the webinars should contact Renee Sipple at renee.sipple@wilkes.edu. Teachers can find the complete program listing and the Zoom links for each session at https://wilkes.edu/pdwebinars
All sessions will be taught by full-time and adjunct faculty who teach in the undergraduate and graduate education programs offered by the School of Education. The sessions will offer practical information that can immediately be implemented in the classroom. The webinars reflect the kind of information that educators find in the graduate education programs offered by the Wilkes University School of Education. Like those programs, the free professional development webinars are being offered in a convenient online format.
“Many schools have begun the online transition, yet quality online teaching and learning takes intentional time and development,” said Rhonda Rabbitt, dean of the Wilkes University School of Education. “As part of our mission to partner with schools to meet the needs of each student, we are offering free webinars to teachers and administrators for the reality of the upcoming school year. We are creating a new norm and new systems of teaching and learning. We invite educators to join us in becoming part of the solution—for the children today who will lead tomorrow.”

9:45 a.m. — Leadership and Supervision in Online Learning
11 a.m. – The Evolution of Online Learning

1 p.m. — Special Needs Panel Discussion
2:15 p.m. – Family Engagement for Teachers in the Online Space
Wednesday, August 19:
8:30 a.m. — Literacy for Online Environment Panel Discussion
9:45 a.m. — Cyber Security 10: Best Practices
11 a.m. — What Does it Mean to Care in Cyberspace?
Noon – Lunch Break
1 p.m. — Cultural Competence
2:15 p.m. — Discussion Boards
