The Center for Global Education and Diversity at Wilkes University recently presented its 2020 multicultural awards. The awards recognize students, faculty and staff who have supported and improved the diversity climate on campus, increased international awareness and promote cross-cultural awareness.
The following students, faculty and staff received awards:
Global Scholar and Citizen Award was presented to Morgan Burton, a senior neuroscience major from East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Mmachi Dimoriaku, a senior theatre arts major from Bronx, N.Y. The award recognizes a student demonstrating significant contributions toward raising international awareness at Wilkes through involvement in campus and community activities promoting cross-cultural awareness.
Wilkes Diversity and Inclusion Student Award was presented to Yasmeen Ahmed of Bartonsville, Pa. The award recognizes a student who has contributed to improving the diversity climate on campus.
Wilkes Executive Diversity Award was presented to Philip Ruthkosky, associate dean, student development. The award recognizes a member of the Board of Trustees or the administration who has contributed to improving the diversity climate on campus.
Wilkes Diversity Faculty Award was presented to Ellen Newell, associate professor of psychology. The award recognizes a faculty member who has contributed to improving the diversity climate on campus.
Wilkes Diversity Staff Award was presented to Rosa Ponce Sanabria, director, international engagement. The award recognizes a staff member who has contributed to improving the diversity climate on campus.
Global Scholar and Citizen Career Award was presented to Gina Morrison, professor, global cultures. The award is presented to a faculty member who has significantly contributed toward increasing international knowledge and promoting cross-cultural awareness through academics, study abroad and involvement with campus activities.
