As part of an on-going series introducing campus departments and the people who work there, News@Wilkes looks at members of the Admissions Department.
Meet associate director of transfer and graduate students, Lauren Leighton.
What do you do? I work with students who are interested in transferring in as a nursing or education major. Aside from these traditional programs, I also recruit students for the accelerated bachelor’s degree program in business administration and the accelerated nursing degree program. I work closely with all the students to ensure that there is a smooth transition from their previous school to Wilkes University.
Why Wilkes? I enjoy working at Wilkes because of the sense of community and the people. The dedicated faculty and staff make Wilkes a great place to work. I like to spend my lunch breaks sitting at a picnic table in the middle of campus and watching students go to and from class.
Favorite thing to do in Wilkes-Barre: Enjoy the outdoor events in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
Favorite vacation spot: Long Beach Island, N.J.
Random fun fact: I used to work at Walt Disney World.
Best college advice for prospective students: I always tell students to make the most out of their four years on campus by joining clubs and getting involved.
