Wilkes University students, faculty and staff will commemorate Veterans Day across campus with a variety of events.
- November 7, 4-6 p.m. Henry Student Center first floor lounge, 84 W. South St. Wilkes-Barre: First-year student mentors are hosting a donation drive to prepare baskets and cards for local veterans to be donated to the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Students are invited to join together to assemble the donations.
- November 12, 11 a.m. Veterans Memorial Court, Fenner Quadrangle: The Wilkes Veteran’s Council will host a Veteran’s Day ceremony. Wilkes interim President Paul S. Adams will speak along with participation by the Airforce ROTC cadets and the playing of taps.
- November 14, 11 a.m. Breiseth Hall, room 106: Lecture, “30 Years Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall.” Jonathan Kuiken, assistant professor of history, will discuss the importance of the events in Berlin as well as the significance of the revolutionary year 1989 that brought the collapse of communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe. Andreea Maierean, assistant professor of political science, will analyze the different patterns of transition and discuss the Romanian Revolution, the only event in the region in which the peaceful demonstrators have been violently suppressed.
