Student pharmacists in the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy at Wilkes University celebrated National Pharmacy Week through the Colonels ConnectRx initiative. Colonels ConnectRx places Wilkes student pharmacists in community centers to educate the elderly about medication safety and disposal as well as to provide blood pressure screenings.
Students visited 17 centers which included: Butler Township Senior Center, Charles T. Adams Active Adult Center, Dallas Active Adult Center, Edwardsville Senior Center, Freeland Active Adult Center, Hazleton Active Adult Center, Jewish Community Alliance Center, Kingston Active Adult Center, Lee Park Active Adult Center, Mountaintop Active Adult Center (Wright Manor), Pittston Active Adult Center, Plains Active Adult Center, Plymouth Active Adult Center (Dan Flood Towers, Rose Tucker Center, Shickshinny Active Adult Center, Falls Active Adult Center and the Wyoming County Active Adult Center.
In total, the student pharmacists completed:
- 262 blood pressure screenings
- 132 pill boxes distributed (adherence counseling)
- 149 medication disposal bags distributed
- 337 seniors educated on medication safety and medication disposal
