Wilkes University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 752 Holds Commissioning Ceremony for Local Students on May 17

Wilkes University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 752 held a commissioning ceremony on May 17 in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center. Students from Wilkes University, King’s College, Marywood, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Misericordia University, University of Scranton and East Stroudsburg University were commissioned and received the rank of second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. The event was attended by family, friends and staff.

The students who received commissions as second lieutenants and their post-graduation assignments are:

  • Dominique Bergeron of Jackson, N.J.

Bergeron graduated in Wilkes’ spring commencement with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She will be stationed at Elgin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Fla., where she will be a clinical nurse.

  • Randill De Asis of Garnervill, N.Y.

De Asis graduated this spring from King’s college with a bachelor’s degree in international business. He will be stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, where he will be trained to be an intel officer.

  • Shane Flannelly of Scranton, Pa.

Flannelly graduated from Marywood University this spring with a bachelor’s degree in aviation. He will be stationed at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Miss., where he will begin training to become a pilot.

  • Bryce Grosshardt of Schwenskville, Pa.

Grosshardt graduated from King’s College this spring with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. He will be stationed at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Miss., where he will begin training to become a pilot.

  • Scott Roper of Kingston Pa.

Roper graduated from Penn State Wilkes-Barre this spring with a bachelor’s degree in aviation. He will be stationed at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla., where he will train to become a combat systems operator.

  • Dylan McCabe of Clark, N.J.

McCabe graduated in Wilkes’ spring commencement with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and sociology. He will be stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, where he will be trained to be an intelligence officer.

  • Michael Shutlock of Dallas, Pa.

Shutlock graduated in Wilkes’ spring commencement with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He will be stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he will be trained to become a development engineer.

  • Angela Stella of Whitehall, Pa.

Stella graduated from Misericordia University this spring with a bachelor’s in psychology. She will be stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, where she will begin training to become a pilot.

  • Jake Thomson of Wantaugh, N.Y.

Thomson graduated from the University of Scranton this spring with a bachelor’s degree in history. He will be stationed at Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mont., where he will become a munitions and missile maintenance officer.

  • Abigail Truschel of Mountain Top, Pa.

Truschel graduated from East Stroudsburg University this spring with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She will be stationed at the 673rd Medical Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska, where she will join the Nurse Corps.
