Dan King, advocacy journalist for Young Voices and digital coordinator at In Pursuit Of, LLC will be the keynote speaker at Wilkes University’s 19th annual Tom Bigler Journalism Conference. The conference will be held on Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Tom Bigler Journalism conference invites local high school students to explore the ways the field has adapted to technological changes over time. The conference is sponsored by the Wilkes University Communication Studies Department.
As the digital coordinator at In Pursuit Of, LLC, a full-service communications and marketing agency, King works to support their mission which drives ideas and shapes debates in pursuit of a free and open society. King is also an advocacy journalist for Young Voices which provides media outlets around the world with access to the next generation’s advocates by connecting students and young professionals with producers and journalists. King’s work has been featured in Reason Magazine, The Week, National Review, and the Weekly Standard. King is a graduate of Niagara University.
Prior to the conference, students also had a chance to submit portfolio pieces for the Tom Bigler Journalism Competition. The competition recognizes outstanding writing, photography, design and layout and production among student journalists. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the conference.
Students attending the conference will have the opportunity to attend panels including “Industry Professional,” where students will learn from local professionals in the field of broadcast, print, internet marketing, photography and public relations. High schoolers will also get the chance to attend workshops in broadcast production, radio, print and online journalism and public relations.
