Students in Wilkes University’s Sidhu School of Business and Leadership will teach SHINE of Luzerne County students how to “Make Money Make Cents” on April 11. Wilkes students will visit the SHINE afterschool center at Heights Murray Elementary School, 1 S. Sherman St, Wilkes-Barre, to present the program from 4-5 p.m.
The Wilkes students will teach the first through third graders how to count change and identify how much each bill is worth, while learning the value of money through fun and interactive activities. Students will participate in hands-on activities such as modified life-size monopoly, coin twister, and a bingo money race.
SHINE of Luzerne County at Wilkes University serves students in six centers. SHINE, which stands for Schools and Homes In Education, is offered four days a week and uses a project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum to kindle excitement about learning. School districts served by the program are Hanover Area, Hazleton Area, Greater Nanticoke Area, Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Valley West.
