Wilkes University Biology Club Holds Relay for Heat on March 23 to Raise Funds to Ease Home Heating Crisis

by Web Services

The Wilkes University Biology Club will hold its annual 100-mile Relay for Heat to raise funds to assist local families with their heating bills. All contributions are given to the Commission for Economic Opportunity (CEO) Martin Luther King Fuel Fund and used exclusively to avert home heating crises.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 23. The run begins at 6 a.m. at the path on the top of the dikes on the Kingston side of the Susquehanna River. Participants will sign-up for time-slots to run and will complete a four-mile leg of the relay until the 100 miles is covered. The first four-mile leg starts at the two-mile marker on the dikes in Kirby Park and turns around at the zero-mile marker in Kingston. The event usually finishes around 7 p.m.

Last year the club raised $1,800 by collecting donations from campus and the community. Individuals can support the event by pledging an amount per mile ran or a fixed amount. Please make checks payable to Wilkes University Biology Club, write MLK Fuel Fund on the memo line and send the check to “Relay for Heat,” c/o Dr. W. Terzaghi, Wilkes University, 84 W.
